Our sauna stones are made from mineral-rich Canadian basalt-based volcanic stone, sourced from a quarry in the mountains of British Columbia’s Kootenay region.

Basalt forms when molten volcanic material cools deep within the earth, creating an exceptionally dense stone with excellent heat-retaining qualities. Our current stone is primarily diabase, a closely related volcanic rock, with some stones containing natural olivine features that add unique colour and character.

Dense volcanic stone absorbs heat deeply and releases it gradually, producing the rich rolling steam sauna enthusiasts know as löyly — the burst of heat and vapor created when water meets hot stones. Great löyly is the heart of a true sauna experience, and the quality of your stones makes a real difference.

Our stones heat thoroughly, hold heat beautifully, and create smooth, satisfying steam while giving your heater a striking natural appearance. Each stone has its own unique texture and character, making your sauna both a high-performing and visually beautiful experience.

Real Canadian Sauna Stones

Most sauna stones sold in North America are imported from overseas, traveling thousands of miles before reaching your sauna. Others are sourced from generic stone supplies that may not offer the natural beauty and character that make a sauna truly special.

Our stones come from volcanic basalt deposits just outside Nelson, British Columbia, in the rugged mountains of the Kootenays.

The mountains surrounding Nelson in the Kootenays were shaped by ancient volcanic forces that created the dense volcanic stone we use in our sauna stones today.

Our journey into sauna stone started while building our own sauna business. When we began looking for quality sauna stones, we were surprised by the limited options available. Much of what we found was imported from overseas or simply lacked the local character and beauty we were looking for.

We believed there had to be a better option — a beautiful, high-quality Canadian stone that could bring something special to the sauna experience.

Today, we carefully wash, sort, and prepare these stones right here in British Columbia before they make their way to saunas throughout Canada, the Pacific Northwest West, and beyond.
